Those of you following along have seen the general responses to this experiment. In my opinion, they're all fantastic. So many good discussions have been sparked, and there were even a few conversions of people who heard -one- side of the story first and eventually sought the full perspective. That's great!

One thing I've seen cropping up a lot, mostly on Dobson's own journal about the experiment, is something along the lines of:
"LOL jokes on those dumb mean trolls for giving you money, they sure are idiots for paying someone they supposedly hate, lol why would they give you money if they were just dumb mean trolls?!"

Wow. It's almost like we aren't actually doing this just for the sake of some mean-spirited prank. It's almost like we felt invested in a legitimate purpose enough to actually contribute to it financially! Imagine that!

Some of them even seem to be implying I should just ask him for a refund? And I mean, people who are supposedly in support of him. Well, if I were a client without ulterior motives, I may be within my rights to do so, but honestly I feel that's just too harsh for this scenario. I knew from the start it wouldn't be satisfactory, why would I then claim I deserve a refund? As my favorite analogy goes, that's like ordering a rat on a stick at a restaurant then demanding a free meal. The point is to prove the restaurant actually serves rats on a stick. And even though it took him a long time, Dobson did the work and he probably needs the money more than we do. I never had any intention to rip him off, scam him, or otherwise get free artwork. We knew what we were getting into.

Keep the money, Dobson. Despite the sting of my previous comment about your future commissions, if you decide to change your behavior one day perhaps you'll really have earned that $45.

I can't say this to any of the people confused about it on his journal of course, considering I'm blocked, but there it is should they happen to find it.

I leave for a couple weeks and suddenly there was a massive plot with drama involved and people getting offended? Had I known this was taking place I would've logged in a loooooooooong time ago!

Yeah it was poorly advertised until then because that would have ruined the surprise. X3

what an evil plan, what I actually love about this is the amount of backslash. Instead of looking within and going like "Ok, maybe they're right, I actually did that, I have to reevaluate some stuff" he actually started throwing a tantrum about how you were "attacking" him.
Bruh I've been attacked a lotta times in my life and lemme tell you, that wasn't an attack.
(When people protest after you tell the truth, I always imagine them speaking in some British accent, I don't know why)

Muhuwahaha.

And yes you're absolutely right. But this is Andrew Dobson and he's notorious for not accepting any criticism without running back to his hugbox. And this is a great example of how that can hurt you.

Anyway, I'm pleased with how it turned out. Plenty of people understand exactly what happened, and Dobson's fans are insulated enough that their opinions are hardly informed, lol.

I didn't even know who Andrew Dobson was until these journals lolz. Literally all this time I was like "but who in the blue hell is this Dobson guy?"

My favorite part of Dobdumbs journal is that everyone in the comments is acting like we got tricked out of money...when...you know...that was the whole point in us commissioning him in the first place.

They have some semblance of awareness though. Quite a few people have inquired in passing on their comments about what the entry really entailed, before sucking back in to the good Dobson drones they are.

I doubt that those 'fans' even attempt to stop to think about what they are commenting on.

It was something that appeared only as a slot in their notification inboxes - how often people go beyond that notion when thinking about how to respond?

"Tom Preston got tricked" -right in the title

"Tom Preston got paid to draw something for trolls to rip into shreds" -journal entry itself

As such, comments along the lines of "lol the jokes on them, Preston got their ca$h! Do the Ca-Ching! dance!" sort of write themselves. Hell, even on /co/ some people were quick to write something of this format.

That being said, Dobson got exactly the kind of 'fans' that he deserves. :plotting:

I found it an hour ago while browsing Foolz archive for /co/ board. Someone saved the stage-by-stage process of the work that you commissioned Dobson to make and used that image in the OP of yet another 'lel, Dobson' thread.

OP had this vibe of "Look! They sure showed him! B^]" to it and Dobson threads on /co/ are regarded as shitposting by the janitors/moderators, so - naturally - thread went to shit quite quickly.

I suppose that some eager lurker started this thread - as I don't recall EDF's deviantART section having this level of cretinism among its regulars. Well, save for that time when a newcomer made a Dobson-tier whine comic about Dobson. =p

Huh, fancy that, lol.

And yeah I think /co/ is really sick of Dobson threads now. We generally keep it all in the EDF thread. It's pretty much the most active thread ON the DA section. And if OP was being sincere then that is a likely scenario. To be honest I often don't realize how many people actually lurk that thread. Evidently more than I thought.
Dobson-tier whine comic--Are you talking about that REALLY verbose one, lol? Good effort, bad execution. Hell, part of the reason I rarely contribute OC is because I want to make sure it's funny.
